Research - Sheffield Live!

Sheffield Live! is based in the workstation. It is a independent radio station, not owned by any company. 

Sheffield live is a community radio station. According to Ofcom (2011) "Community radio...[Stations]..are...small-scale, not-for-profit radio stations operated for the good of members of the public, or of particular communities, and in order ti deliver social gain."

Ofcom are a regulator for broadcasting. Also provides funding for small projects.

The provision of social gain has 4 mandatory requirements

1. Community radio stations must provide a service for underserved groups
2. They must facilitate discussion and expression of opinion within the community served
3. They must provide training or education to people not employed by the station
4. community radio stations must help to strengthen the community served, fostering a greater understanding of its character and needs. 

The independent company who run sheffield live are commedia sheffield Ltd.

Sheffield's Live! TSA Weekly audience of 11% reach in the area. 32,000 adults tune into sheffield Live! (9.32 FM every week).

Community Radio Order (2004) stated that community radio services cannot gain more than 50% of running costs from one source advertising or on-air-sponsorships. 

Relies on donations.

Ofcom also makes available an amount of funding annually. 

Sheffield Live! accesses this fund and in 08/09 e.g. gained a £15,000 grant to fund the wage of a Business Development Manager. 

Consumption 

DOB Radio, apps, in your car cant receive Sheffield Live! only through FM Radio (using analog technology). 

We can stream it however through the internet off there websites.
